February 25- March 1

Read Across America Week is this week:
Wednesday-Get caught reading by people in red hats and receive a treat. 
Thursday-Dress up like your favorite book character. 
Friday-Wear spirit wear and Dr. Seuss' hat.

Your child may bring in Dr. Seuss books (please write your child's name in each book.) We are having a challenge this week in the classroom to read as many Dr. Seuss books as we can in class and at home. We are working on different activities about Dr. Seuss and his books.

Please note that if you have not sent in the field trip permission slip for your child, please send in tomorrow for our trip. I MUST have this form in order for your child to attend. I am sending home forms with your child today if I don't have one for him/her. Thanks for your time with this matter. ðŸ˜Š

Please note there is a change in the spelling words for the week:
dead- dear (this is the word they will be tested on.)

FBI Breakfast this Friday, March 1 from 7-7:45 and Talent Show is in the evening on the same day at 6:00.

February 25-March 1 and Classroom Notes

Hi!
I hope all of you had a nice winter break with your children. I wanted to take the time to say "Thank You" for all the teacher appreciation gifts/supplies, Valentine's Day gifts, and my birthday gifts. Thanks for your time, support, and making me feel so special. Here are some helpful reminders for the classroom:
  • Please send in the animal in-house field trip permission slip if you have not done so. (Please note that the money is a donation, however the signed permission is required for your child to attend.)
  • Thanks for your time and help with your child's homework and any unfinished work that is sent home that was not completed in class for reinforcement. Please know that it is greatly appreciated.
  • A healthy snack is needed each day for your child.
  • Please help your child to work on homework, read daily for 20 minutes, and work on sight words for reinforcement or learning them if needed.
  • Please be sure to put any transportation notes and/or club dismissal information in your child's agenda.
  • Please note that if your child is absent and/or has been absent, please be sure to send in any doctor's notes or notes regarding these absences. I will be sure to send them to the office for documentation purposes.
Learning in the Classroom-

  • Language Arts- We continue to work on opinion writing. We work on stating our opinion, giving 3 or more reasons and following up with the opinion stated in a different way. We are reading and discussing Dr. Seuss books this week. We will be comparing them and discussing the lessons in the books, passages about Dr. Seuss during reading groups. Please review sight words with your child and work on learning new ones. If your child has mastered sight words, please work on spelling them. Please note that I will be sending home another list tomorrow and it is two sided. Mrs. Hallmark's reading challenge for February is due this Wednesday, February 27th along with the Six Flags reading challenge is you are interested in completing this challenge.
  • Math- we will continue to work on word problems. We will be working on adding two digit and one digit numbers.
  • Social Studies- We will finish up Lewis and Clark unit.

February 11-15

February 18 - 22: Winter Break NO SCHOOL
Tuesday, February 26th: 6 Flags Reading Challenge Due
Friday, February 28th: FBI breakfast: Dad's come have breakfast with your child and stay for the meeting.

Language Arts- We are working on Opinion Writing during this time. We are working on stating our opinion in the beginning followed by 3 reasons, 3 examples to back up our reasons and a closure that restates our opinion in a different way. (We call it the OREO writing process.)We are working on or variant vowel this week during Phonics time. We are working on editing our writing. We are working on capitalization and punctuation in our writing. We are working with other students to be sure our reading makes sense and we have all the necessary components to make it a good writing piece.

Math- We are working on adding 3 numbers. We are working on addition math facts fluency to 20. We are working on getting faster with our addition facts to 20. We are discussing strategies such as finding the bigger number and counting on etc. We are always working on word problems and using s strategies to determine the answer from key words. We are also working on time to the hour and half hour.

Social Studies/Science- We are discussing the adventures of Lewis and Clark. In Science, we are discussing the survival of animals in Science Lab. We will be having our fieldtrip, Wildlife Wonders after the winter break. We will be meeting and interacting with some unique animals during this time.
