Hi everyone!
I hope everyone is staying warm these days. Here are some dates that you may want to put on your calendar.
Important Dates:
Thursday, January 31st: STEM day at Addison
Friday, February 1st: FBI breakfast Dad's come have breakfast with your child and stay for the meeting.
Thursday, February 7th: Picture Day
February 11 - 15: Teacher Appreciation Week
Thursday, February 14th: Progress Reports will go home Exchanging of Valentine's
February 18 - 22: Winter Break NO SCHOOL
Tuesday, February 26th: 6 Flags Reading Challenge Due
Friday, February 28th: FBI breakfast: Dad's come have breakfast with your child and stay for the meeting.
Also, please note that in Math we are working on adding 3 numbers. We are working on this using the strategies of making 10, doubles and doubles plus one. We will be having timed math tests on addition facts to 10. Our standard is to mentally solve addition facts to 10 before second grade however our tests will be up to 20. The first grade teachers feel this will help our students to solve addition facts in a faster manner and help to master this standard.
We will be having some animals visit us in an in-house fieldtrip. We have Science standards of learning about animals and how they survive. Please look for more information in your child's take home folder. I think the children will really enjoy this hands on and interactive experience which will take place after winter break.
Check this blog for updates on what we are doing in Mrs. Shildneck's First Grade!

Dear Parents,
I am sending
this to you in your child’s folder to be sure everyone receives the information.
I wanted to update you on what we are learning in the classroom and some other
things. Here goes with what we are learning:
Math- We are
learning to add 3 numbers.
Language
Arts-
We are working on opinion writing. (stating our opinion in the beginning,
followed by 3 reasons and restating the opinion in a different way for
closure.) We continue to work on beginning capitalization and punctuation in our
writing.
Social
Studies- We are discussing landforms and will be discussing Lewis and
Clark.
Science- We are
discussing animals. We will be having an in-house fieldtrip and will be
interacting with some animals. Look for more information to come soon in your
child’s folder.
We are in need of some items for the classroom. Please know
that anything that can be donated will be greatly appreciated. J We are in
need of some snacks for our snack bank. Please help your child to remember that
he/she needs a healthy snack each day. We are also in need of foam hand soap,
hand sanitizer and baby wipes. We are working our way through these items
as we try to stay healthy during this winter season.
Please help with communication. Please fill in the information
at the bottom, detach it, and send it back to me in your child’s folder. I want
to be sure that I have everyone’s correct email address. Thanks for your time
as always with all of these matters.
